The strategic submarine "Knyaz Pocharsky" has been put into service with the Russian army.
Axar.az reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the flag-raising ceremony on the strategic submarine "Knyaz Pocharsky", which belongs to the improved 955A "Borey-A" project.
According to the information, "Knyaz Pocharsky" is the fifth strategic nuclear missile submarine of the improved 955A project (codenamed "Borey-A"), and the eighth in the "Borey" family in general.
The ship's foundation was laid on December 23, 2016, at the "Sevmash" OJSC in Severodvinsk. It was launched on February 3, 2024.
Initially, the ship was planned to be transferred to the Northern Fleet at the end of 2024, but in early December of that year, information was released that the delivery date had been moved to 2025.
The Project 955/955A submarines are the latest, fourth-generation submarines ever built. This generation of nuclear submarines operates much quieter than the third generation, making them more lethal.
The main armament of the Project 955/955A submarines is a 16-barreled R-30 Bulava ballistic missile, arranged in two rows of vertical shafts.
The Bulava itself is a Russian solid-fuel ballistic missile. The Russians claim that the deployment of this new missile complex on Project 955 submarines will restore the altered balance of power in Russia's nuclear triad.
However, some experts believe that replacing sea-based liquid-fueled missiles with the Bulava could reduce its nuclear deterrent potential due to its reduced launch weight.
It should be noted that numerous test launches of the Bulava missile have failed, although the Russians have since improved the missile's reliability somewhat.
