Axar.az reports that in a congratulatory message addressed to Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the new President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa stated:
"I extend my warmest congratulations to you on your inauguration as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of the Portuguese people and myself, and I wish you increasing success in performing your duties. I also seize this opportunity to express my hope that the relations between our two countries can continue to flourish by discovering opportunities for cooperation within the framework of international law and the United Nations Charter, centered on respect for human dignity. I request that Your Excellency accept my sincere respects once again."
