The Azerbaijan Society of the University of Aberdeen in Scotland represented the country at the annual international exhibition held at the university.
Axar.az reports that the State Committee on Work with Diaspora provided students with various promotional materials, national clothing, and flags in line with Azerbaijan’s diaspora, youth, and cultural policies, as well as the State Program for 2022–2026 on Education of Youth in Prestigious Foreign Universities and the National Cultural Concept “Azerbaijani Culture - 2040”, including the First National Action Plan for 2025–2030.
Students and visitors at the exhibition were given extensive information about Azerbaijan’s rich culture, national traditions, and history.
The Azerbaijani exhibition featured various cultural and historical elements reflecting national identity. Guests were offered samples of Azerbaijani cuisine, including pakhlava and shakarbura. Visitors also learned about the Azerbaijani flag, its history, and symbolic meaning. In addition, they were introduced to Azerbaijani kelaghayi scarves, which are included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
One of the highlights of the exhibition was the traditional backgammon game (nard), which attracted great interest. Visitors were taught the rules of the game.
The event contributed to the development of intercultural dialogue and increased awareness of Azerbaijan’s rich heritage.
It should be noted that the Aberdeen Azerbaijan Society was established in 2023 by students studying at the University of Aberdeen under the 2022–2026 State Program on Education in Prestigious Foreign Universities.
