Iran has announced that restrictions on the use of some foreign social media platforms for official communications will be lifted.

Axar.az reports, citing Students’ News Agency (ISNA), that Abbas Pazouki, deputy for communications and information at the office of Iran’s first vice president, announced the decision.

Under the decision, foreign platforms can be used to publish official news and information.

The official use of foreign messaging platforms by Iranian government agencies was restricted in 2017 and was formally banned in 2018.

Under the policy, government agencies were required to conduct official correspondence and communications through domestic messaging platforms.

The decision comes as access to several foreign social media platforms in Iran has faced restrictions in recent years.
