D-8 trade ministers to meet in Cairo

On December 2, the 4th meeting of ministers responsible for trade of the Developing Eight (D-8) member states will be held in Cairo.

Axar.az reports that delegations from the member states will participate in the event. Several preparatory meetings have already taken place.

On December 1, a meeting of senior trade officials of the member states is planned. The provisional agenda of the 4th meeting will be reviewed, and statements by the D-8 Secretary-General and heads of delegations will be heard.

At the ministerial meeting on December 2, the adoption of the Cairo Declaration on trade cooperation is expected.

It should be noted that the D-8 group was established in 1997 to enhance economic cooperation among member countries. The current members are Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan. Egypt has chaired the organization since last year.

On December 19, 2024, during the organization’s 11th Summit in Cairo, the Republic of Azerbaijan was unanimously elected as a member of the D-8.
