Netherlands temporarily moves Iran embassy to Baku

The Netherlands has temporarily relocated its embassy in Iran from Tehran to Baku, Azerbaijan, due to increasing security risks.

Axar.az reports that Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen announced the news on X.

“Due to increasing risks to the safety of our staff, it has been decided to temporarily relocate the operations of the Dutch embassy in Iran to Baku, Azerbaijan. I have just spoken with Ambassador Emiel de Bont and his team. I am pleased that they were able to reach Azerbaijan safely and have deep respect and appreciation for their enormous dedication in difficult times."

Berendsen added: "We are closely monitoring developments in Iran. If the security situation allows, a decision will be made on when and in what form the operations of our embassy in Iran can resume on-site in Tehran."

Earlier today, the Dutch ambassador to Iran and embassy personnel were evacuated across the border into Azerbaijan.
