On March 11, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the UN High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Special Envoy for Combating Islamophobia, Miguel Angel Moratinos, who is visiting the country to take part in the Global Baku Forum.
Axar.az reports according to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the continuation of joint projects, and prospects for future cooperation.
Both sides highlighted the important role of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Alliance in promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue. They also stressed the significance of Azerbaijan’s contribution to intercultural dialogue through the Baku Process and other international initiatives.
Bayramov also briefed Moratinos on the post-conflict regional situation, Azerbaijan’s peace efforts, and the ongoing peace process with Armenia.
Moratinos praised Azerbaijan’s active and consistent policy in promoting intercultural dialogue at the international level. He emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation with the UN Alliance of Civilizations and expressed support for further joint initiatives.
The sides also discussed issues arising from the growing military escalation in the Middle East and expressed concern over the situation.
They further exchanged views on other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest, including promoting intercultural solidarity in the face of global challenges and opportunities for joint efforts to combat Islamophobia.
