Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi during his official visit to Tokyo.
Axar.az reports, citing MFA's X account, the sides reviewed the broad agenda of Azerbaijan–Japan cooperation and discussed ways to further strengthen our partnership in the economy, trade, investment, energy, transport, and other areas.
"We also highlighted the importance of advancing cooperation on green technologies and decarbonization initiatives.
I informed my counterpart about Azerbaijan’s plans to introduce a visa-free regime for Japanese citizens, which will contribute to strengthening people-to-people contacts, tourism, and business exchanges between our countries.
We also discussed Azerbaijan’s growing role as a regional transportation and logistics hub, including the strategic importance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route in enhancing regional and interregional connectivity.
In addition, I briefed Minister Motegi on the post-conflict situation in the region, large-scale reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the liberated territories, and the latest developments in the Armenia–Azerbaijan normalization process.
We also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East, and reaffirmed our commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity," the statement reads.
