On 17 July, within the framework of his official visit to the Russian Federation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.

Axar.az reports, citing MFA's X account, the Ministers discussed the Azerbaijan-Russia bilateral agenda, including cooperation in the political, economic, trade, transport, humanitarian areas, as well as regional and international security issues.

Ministers reviewed the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries. Discussions focused on current state and perspectives of economic and trade cooperation, including on the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, and the role of the Azerbaijan-Russia Business Council.

It was highlighted that the development of transport links and regional transport projects serves to strengthen the economic resilience not only of the participating states but of the region as a whole.

Ministers also underscored the importance of developing cooperation within the framework of the International North-South Transport Corridor, expanding multimodal transportation, and enhancing the efficiency of logistics routes.

During the meeting, discussions focused on cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, the development of ties in culture, education, science, and sports, as well as the promotion of people-to-people contacts and academic and youth exchanges.

Attention was drawn to the environmental situation in the Caspian Sea, including challenges arising from the drop in water levels, and the importance of cooperation in this regard.

The Ministers also discussed pressing issues on the regional and international agenda.

Addressing the situation in the South Caucasus, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the new realities established in the region following the 44-day Patriotic War are based on the principles of international law—specifically state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders.

It was noted that Azerbaijan’s commitment to the peace agenda, its constructive initiatives, and the steps taken toward confidence-building have made a significant contribution to advancing the normalization process.

During the meeting, views were exchanged regarding the situation in the Middle East, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and other regional and international security issues.
