A new situation has emerged in the negotiation process on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
Axar.az reports that, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this during a live broadcast on his Facebook page.
Talking about the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Pashinyan said that such meetings should not be regarded as a victory of one party or defeat of another:
"It's very strange that leaders have been making diametrically opposed comments after a couple of hours of meeting. My initial impression is that our sugeestions have been responded. Both I and the President of Azerbaijan have positively evaluated the meeting."
He said that he did not go beyond what he said in Khankendi in the meeting of the "security councils" of the separatists of Karabakh and Armenia, and that he had discussions in Vienna, more exactly the issue of Karabakh's direct involvement in the negotiations. Pashinyan said the Armenian side did not issue a format change.
The prime minister also said that Baku has recently commented on the outlines of the joint statement of the co-chairs:
"Our agenda during Vienna meeting was to return Karabakh to negotiations. This does not mean changing format. This is simply an attempt to make negotiations more effective. Azerbaijan says the format has remained unchanged. This does not fit the logic we agree with. While emphasizing Karabakh's participation, we did not talk about format changes at all."
On March 29, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nicol Pashinyan held the first official meeting in Vienna.
