Senator met Erdogan, blocked "Armenian genocide"

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said Wednesday that the Senate opposed the adoption of a resolution recognizing the "Armenian genocide" a century ago in the Ottoman Empire.

Axar.az reports that Senator Graham used his right to block the adoption of the resolution.

"I met with Erdogan and Trump and talked about the problems we face in Turkey and Syria. I hope that together we can solve the problem between Turkey and Armenia," the senator added.

Graham, a close ally of Trump, told senators that "history is not necessary to rewrite."

It should be noted that the resolution "Armenian genocide" was proposed by the Democrat Robert Menendez in the Foreign Affairs Committee.

During his visit to Washington, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said the recognition of the "Armenian genocide" by the Ottoman Empire in the House of Representatives shadowed the Turkish-American relations.
