A gas deal between Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan could turn Iran into a regional transit hub.
Axar.az reports the statement came from Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in an interview with a local TV channel.
According to him, Iran has signed a number of agreements with neighbouring countries on cooperation in transit and other areas.
"These documents are very important. Agreements signed with neighbouring countries can contribute to economic development.
He added that Iranian ports are an important factor in terms of trade with neighbouring countries.
An agreement on gas supply between Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan was signed in Ashgabat on November 28.
According to the agreement, up to 1.5-2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas will be supplied to Azerbaijan annually through Iran. Procurement will begin on December 22 this year. According to the tripartite agreement, all five provinces of Iran will be supplied with gas.
