Azerbaijan has always supported the one China policy.
Axar.az reports that Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration, said this in an interview with the Chinese newspaper "Global Times".
"There are strong political relations between our countries. We always support the one China policy. Recently, there was an illegal election in China's Taiwan region, and Azerbaijan assessed it as completely unacceptable," said the presidential assistant.
Speaking about the prospects of cooperation with China, H. Hajiyev said that he wants to see more Chinese companies in Azerbaijan:
"Now we see a steady increase in trade relations between the two countries, but this is not the end result. There are more prospects for this. First, I would like to see more Chinese companies in Azerbaijan. Chinese companies are already involved in the diversification of Azerbaijan's economy, but we expect more as Azerbaijan moves towards green development."
H. Hajiyev pointed out that digital transformation is the number one issue for Azerbaijan in national priorities based on sustainable development goals:
"We see China as a partner in our green transition agenda. We also want our Chinese friends to establish production lines for renewable energy in Azerbaijan. The electric vehicle industry in China is one of the leading industries in the world. We are currently buying electric buses and other equipment from China. We would like to create a production base in Azerbaijan within the framework of cooperation with Chinese companies."
The presidential assistant also said that the Sino-Azerbaijani partnership is of great importance within the framework of the "One Belt, One Road" Initiative (BRI), especially in the context of the Middle Corridor:
"The Middle Corridor can be an important link between China and the European Union. Azerbaijan can be a strong partner in the field of relations with Central Asian countries located on the shores of the Caspian and Black seas. It fits well with the Belt and Road Initiative and highlights the strategic partnership between China and Azerbaijan."
