It is very disappointing that the United States took a unilateral position in favour of Armenia in the peace process between Baku and Yerevan.

Axar.az reports that Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - head of the foreign policy affairs department of the Presidential Administration, said this in an interview with China's "Phoenix" TV channel.

"Certain statements and actions of the United States disappoint us. They adopted the 907th amendment to the "Freedom Support Act" taking a unilateral position against Azerbaijan. This means banning the US government's aid to Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan does not need any help. We are not a country that receives aid.

But the fact is that the 907th amendment was adopted by the US Congress in 1992 when the territories of Azerbaijan were occupied. Imagine that you are under occupation and Congress passes a resolution prohibiting the US government from supporting Azerbaijan. Again, it's their choice. But the problem is that if you take a unilateral step, you cannot be a completely impartial party in the negotiation process", H. Hajiyev said.

According to the presidential assistant, Azerbaijan appreciates the support offered but does not believe that any mediation is necessary in this situation.
