The resumption of activities of the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran, including the return of the ambassador and the current staff of the embassy to Iran, is the right step. The embassy resumed its activities in Tehran at a new address.
Axar.az reports that political scientist Elkhan Sahinoglu said these words about the resumption of activities of the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran.
He said that the former government of Iran had long talks with official Baku about the opening of the embassy.
"There was no progress in the negotiations because the security of the future activity of our embassy was not guaranteed. Security measures will be increased in the new building. The opening of the embassy also supports the work of protecting the rights of our student, who is an Azerbaijani citizen, who is illegally detained in Iran.
The fact that the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran coincided with the election of Masoud Pezeshkia, an Azerbaijani Turk, also attracted attention. This is a sign that official Baku is interested in the development of relations with the new president of Iran. For his part, Masud Pezeshkian can consider the opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran after a long time as one of his first foreign policy successes. Azerbaijan is interested in normal relations with Iran and realization of joint projects. However, Masoud Pezeshkian and his team should make sure that various forces in Iran stop provocative statements and activities against Azerbaijan."
