Recently, Tehran officials have been very critical of the Zangezur Corridor. This is related to the future development concept of the region and Iran's place in this perspective, as Tehran wants to have more opportunities, including transportation communications, and influence the situation in the region.

Axar.az reports that Andrey Fyodorov, former Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, said this in an interview with the “Moscow-Baku” portal.

“It all stems from Iran's dissatisfaction with Azerbaijan and Russia controlling this corridor. Tehran thinks that by implementing the Zangezur Corridor project, it will lose some of its influence in the region. This is one of the biggest questions for isolated Iran. The Zangezur Corridor project is a significant one that could change the entire transportation communication system of the region. It is indeed a serious project and everyone understands its importance, which is why there is a struggle. Iran has its position. The president has changed. Iran plays on its side, not on someone else’s. And not on Armenia’s side either. We need to consider this when assessing the situation,” Fyodorov said.
