Switzerland's foreign affairs ministry has expressed support for a Chinese-led peace initiative aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, marking a significant shift in its stance. This comes as the war enters its third year, with Ukraine and Russia remaining far apart on peace negotiations. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized Switzerland's decision, calling it illogical and reiterating that his peace plan remains the only viable path for a comprehensive resolution.

Axar.az reports that the Swiss government participated as an observer in a recent meeting chaired by Chinese and Brazilian officials, who are advocating for a diplomatic approach to end the conflict. Switzerland's chief spokesperson acknowledged that the inclusion of a reference to the U.N. Charter in the Chinese plan influenced its changed perspective, indicating a willingness to explore diplomatic efforts that align with international law.

Ukraine's foreign ministry responded by emphasizing that any peace proposals must respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reiterated the principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine." They urged Switzerland and other nations to avoid initiatives that could undermine their position in the conflict.
