The Turkish government has confirmed that it denied permission for Israeli President Isaac Herzog to use its airspace to fly to Baku.
Axar.az reports that, citing Musavat, Israel had requested permission for Herzog’s flight to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku. However, Turkiye rejected the request.
This decision is considered the peak of tensions in Turkiye-Israel diplomatic relations.
Furthermore, some claims suggest that even Azerbaijan requested Turkiye to open its airspace, but this appeal was also denied.
