Iran has offered Azerbaijan an alternative route to Nakhchivan. This route will be implemented within the framework of respect for Iran's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Axar.az reports that this was stated at a press conference by Iran's Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani.
According to the ambassador, the previous freight route was quite long, but now Azerbaijani trucks will be able to pass most of the route through its territory, and the rest through Iran - along the Armenian border. The length of the new route will be 50 km, and customs procedures for Azerbaijani trucks will also be carried out following Iranian legislation.
The ambassador also recalled that among the countries of the region, only Iran supports Armenia's position against the Zangezur corridor:
"There is no disagreement between the two countries on this issue. Such a corridor will be harmful to both Armenia and Iran. As for the issue of opening transport routes, Tehran is not against it only if the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the countries are protected."
The ambassador emphasized that any route that includes the logic of a corridor is rejected by Iran.
