Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for their efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
Axar.az, citing Business Insider, reports that speaking alongside Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Putin stated that Russia agrees to cease hostilities but insists that peace must address the root causes of the crisis.
Putin suggested that Ukraine’s willingness for a ceasefire may have been influenced by U.S. pressure, citing recent discussions in Saudi Arabia. Ukraine recently accepted a U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, contingent on Russia’s agreement. Trump welcomed this move, emphasizing the importance of ending the war.
PM Modi reiterated India’s stance in favor of peace and diplomacy, clarifying that India is not neutral but supports dialogue over battlefield solutions. He praised Trump’s efforts and reaffirmed India's willingness to facilitate peace talks. Modi has engaged with both Russian and Ukrainian leaders, advocating for a peaceful resolution.
The Russia-Ukraine war has been ongoing since February 2022.
