Senior diplomats from Iran, Russia, and China met in Beijing to discuss Tehran’s nuclear issues, following Iran’s rejection of U.S. demands to resume talks under pressure.
Axar.az, citing Mehr News, reports that the 2015 nuclear deal, which limited Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief, was unilaterally abandoned by former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018.
Recently, Trump claimed to have sent a letter to Iran proposing negotiations, but Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian dismissed talks under U.S. threats. Iranian Supreme Leader criticized the U.S. for being untrustworthy, stating that Iran sees negotiations as futile given past American betrayals.
Khamenei emphasized that Iran’s primary goal in negotiations has always been sanctions relief, noting that prolonged sanctions are becoming less effective as Iran finds ways to circumvent them. He also reiterated that Iran neither possesses nor seeks nuclear weapons, asserting that if Iran had intended to build them, the U.S. would be unable to prevent it.
