The US virtual embassy in Iran has urged its citizens to leave Iran.
Axar.az reports that a notice was published on the website of the virtual representation.
“US citizens should not travel to Iran for any reason and, if they are there, should leave Iran immediately. US citizens who cannot leave Iran should be prepared to stay in shelters for an extended time,” the notice said.
It was recalled that Washington does not have diplomatic or consular relations with Tehran, and Switzerland acts as the party protecting US interests.
The embassy suggested that its citizens leave Iran through the borders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, or Turkey.
“Azerbaijan’s land borders remain closed, but US citizens can enter Azerbaijan through the Astara border crossing point on June 15 with special permission,” the virtual representation said.
It was noted that Americans must obtain permission from the Azerbaijani government before traveling to the Astara border crossing point. “The US Embassy in Baku should arrange this,” the statement said.
The mission said that citizens wishing to cross into Azerbaijan should contact the US Embassy in Baku.
It should be noted that conditions have been created for foreign citizens to cross the Astara border crossing point in order to return to their countries.
