On July 12, one of the main topics discussed during a nearly five-hour meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Abu Dhabi was the continuation of the border delimitation process. The presence of the heads of the delimitation commissions from both sides – Shahin Mustafayev and Mher Grigoryan – confirms this. The official statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that “the leaders, evaluating the achievements made in the border delimitation process, have instructed the relevant state commissions to continue practical work in this direction.”
According to the latest agreements, the delimitation process is to be carried out gradually from north to south. It is currently expected to continue in the Tavush direction. However, Armenian media reports that the work has halted.
Axar.az reports that Karen Ghazaryan, a former member of the Achakurt community in Tavush province, claimed that everything was ready in this direction.
According to him, work was proceeding rapidly:
"Even demining work was completed, and barbed wire was installed. Everything is ready from Noyemberyan to Kirants. However, the process has stopped, and the reasons are unknown. Rеports suggest that as a result of the delimitation process, large areas will come under Azerbaijan’s control. If there is currently a buffer zone, after delimitation, this will no longer exist, and like in Kirants, part of the residential areas will be returned to Azerbaijan,” he claimed.
