Azerbaijan Press Council condemns Russian media attacks

Certain Russian media outlets are disseminating inappropriate, threatening, and insulting statements directed against the Azerbaijani state, people, country's leadership, and prominent figures.

Axar.az reports that the Press Council of Azerbaijan has issued a statement in this regard.

The statement said: “We believe that this is entirely contrary to the principles of civil journalism, ethical standards, and human values.

Regrettably, such occurrences are continuously observed across Russian media platforms.”

The Azerbaijan Press Council considers such cases to be completely contrary to the spirit of bilateral relations, as well as media cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia.

The Press Council also mentioned that that the Azerbaijani media has always been distinguished by its sensitive attitude to issues related to neighboring countries, including Russia, strictly adhering to professional journalism standards.

“Therefore, the occurrence of such regrettable cases within Russian media space provokes deep disappointment and justified dissatisfaction among the Azerbaijani public,” the Council emphasized.

“The Azerbaijan Press Council strongly condemns these cases. At the same time, the Council, appealing to the Russian media community and society, urges them to take decisive measures agasinty the incidents aimed at undermining Azerbaijani-Russian media cooperation and friendship between the two peoples.

The Press Council reiterates that insulting opinions and threatening claims directed against the Azerbaijani state, its people, and prominent figures are unacceptable,” the statement said.

The Press Council concluded by reminding authors of such statements that they bear legal responsibility for their actions.
