Today marks the birthday of First Vice-President and First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva.
Axar.az informs that Mehriban Arif Aliyeva was born in Baku on August 26, 1964.
In 1981, she graduated from secondary school №23 in Baku with a gold medal and entered the Treatment and Prophylaxis Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute named after N.Narimanov.
In 1988, she graduated from the First Moscow State Medical Institute named after I.M.Sechenov with an honors diploma.
In 1988-1990, she passed clinical residency in the "Eye Diseases" specialty at the First Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M.Sechenov.
In 1990-1995, she worked at the Eye Diseases Research Institute in Moscow.
In 1995, she founded the Azerbaijan Culture Foundation and currently serves as its chairperson.
In 1996, with the aim of promoting Azerbaijani culture extensively, she founded the "Azerbaijan - Irs" magazine, published in three languages (Azerbaijani, English, and Russian).
In October 2002, she was elected President of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.
Since 2004, she has been leading the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, established to study the rich political legacy of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, and promote the ideas of national statehood.
In August 2004, she was awarded the title of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for her services to the preservation and development of Azerbaijan's oral folk literature and national musical heritage. In November 2022, she sent a letter to the Director General of UNESCO requesting the termination of her activities as a Goodwill Ambassador.
In December 2004, she was elected a member of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the 4th General Assembly of the NOC.
Since 2004, she has been a member of the Political Council of the New Azerbaijan Party, since 2013 - Deputy Chairperson of the Party, and since 2021 - First Deputy Chairperson of the Party.
In 2005, she received the academic degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy.
In 2005, 2010, and 2015, she was elected a deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the third, fourth, and fifth convocations, respectively.
In November 2006, she was awarded the title of Goodwill Ambassador of ISESCO for her large-scale activities in the humanitarian field, including her contribution to the development of intercivilizational and intercultural dialogue, promotion of Islamic cultural heritage, and significant support in addressing the problems of children in need of care.
In June 2016, she was elected a member of the World Azerbaijanis Coordination Board at the 4th Congress of World Azerbaijanis held in Baku.
On February 21, 2017, she was appointed First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In connection with this appointment, her powers as a deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan were terminated on March 6, 2017.
