Azerbaijan also plays an important role in the development of the North-South transport corridor.

Axar.az reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed this opinion in his speech at the "SCO Plus" format meeting held on July 4 in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

The head of state said that the railway and road infrastructure of the Azerbaijani segment of the North-South Corridor is ready and operating successfully:

"Currently, we are working on increasing the volume of railway transportation to 15 million tons per year, and if necessary, this number will be increased to 30 million tons."
