In September of this year, a 34-letter Common Turkic Alphabet was adopted. This is a historic step.

Axar.az reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made this statement at the 11th Summit of Heads of State of the Turkic Council in Bishkek.

Erdogan described the adoption of the Common Turkic Alphabet as a symbol of the Turkic countries taking steps together toward the future:

"From now on, member countries should adopt this alphabet as a basis for moving forward. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan are ready to transition to the Common Turkic Alphabet. It is important for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan to initiate steps toward switching to the new alphabet."
