A fire broke out at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium this morning after an electrical fault.
Smoke was seen coming from the ground's South Stand with witnesses reporting alarms going off. The blaze broke out in the Sir Bobby Charlton stand, as the club confirmed it has been put out.
Manchester United tweeted: "A small electrical fire was identified quickly in the Sir Bobby Charlton stand around 7am today.
"The fire brigade attended & the isolated incident was dealt with quickly & effectively. There was minimal damage & there were no injuries."
Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed there was an electrical fire in the stadium.
A spokesperson said: "At 6.58am three crews from Salford and Stretford were called to reports of a building fire on Sir Matt Busby Way.
"On arrival, crews found a fire involving electrical equipment in a lift motor room. They isolated the electrics then extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus, one jet and one CO2 fire extinguisher.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, it is thought a faulty lift motor caused the fire.
It is not yet known the extent of any damage caused.
The club has been contacted for comment.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that three crews from Stretford and the surrounding the area were scrambled to the incident, which was first reported as a building fire.
When the emergency teams arrived, it was found to be a pile of burning rubbish causing the smoke.
They were called to the scene at 8.30am, extinguished the flames and left within 15 minutes.
