In connection with the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which has been held in our country since 2017, traffic jams on capital roads have increased, and traffic restrictions on some streets and avenues have brought Baku to a state of paralysis. Although the Formula-1 races are held for 3 days - on September 13-15, the restrictions imposed in connection with the preparation process last for about 20 days. This proposed to hold the Grand Prix in our cities with less population density relevant again.

Axar.az reports that in response to the inquiry on the subject, the press service of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix stated that there are certain infrastructure and requirements for holding Formula 1 competitions.

"Baku is the optimal choice in this sense. Because both the city's central roads and the route along the coast are adapted to international standards. It is also ideal for holding competitions. Of course, there are other beautiful cities in Azerbaijan - for example, Sheki, Gabala, or Ganja. But for Formula 1 to hold world-class events, it is necessary to build the same level of infrastructure in those cities. Redesigning the roads, taking special security measures, and creating the necessary conditions for the large-scale audience require very serious investments it is an ideal place for holding competitions," it was noted.

Recalling that the Formula-1 races have been extended for another 3 years, Baku will host this event until 2026:

"During the races, there are traffic jams and restrictions, but these restrictions apply only for a short period. Since the Baku City Ring is an urban track, some roads covered by the track are open to traffic at certain times of the day to minimize traffic jams during the race week for 2 years. We would like to note that this practice is applied in rare urban tracks in the world."

It was also emphasized that although the imposed restrictions may cause temporary dissatisfaction, the economic benefits brought by Formula 1 to our country are significant:

"International events such as Formula 1 greatly contribute to the increase of tourism potential, economic development, and global recognition of our country. In addition, Formula-1 attracts the attention of millions of people worldwide to Azerbaijan through broadcasting, which strengthens the country's international image."
