A harrowing video published by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, showing Rom Braslavski severely malnourished and pleading for help, saying he is "at death’s door." The video, filmed days before his captors allegedly lost contact with him, has intensified domestic and international pressure on Israel and humanitarian organizations.
Axar.az, citing Times of Israel, reports that Braslavski’s parents described the pain of watching their son deteriorate, accusing the Israeli government of inaction and Hamas of torture and starvation. Only 20 of the 49 remaining hostages kidnapped on October 7, 2023, are believed to still be alive.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said the videos prove Hamas has no intention of negotiating a hostage deal and reiterated his determination to destroy the terror group. He also likened the treatment of hostages to Nazi crimes, appealing to the Red Cross to intervene.
The Red Cross responded, calling the footage "harrowing" and renewed calls for immediate access to hostages. In response, Hamas' military wing said it would allow such access only if Israel opens permanent humanitarian corridors and suspends aerial attacks during aid deliveries.
Israel denies deliberately starving Gaza’s population and blames Hamas and the UN for disruptions in aid. The Hamas-run health ministry claims 175 deaths from malnutrition, but these numbers are not independently verified.
