Spain records 2,405 heat-related deaths so far in 2024

From the beginning of this year until August 16, 2,405 people have died in Spain due to extreme heat.

Axar.az reports, citing local media, that between May 15 and September 30, 2024, a total of 2,012 people have died from heat. In comparison, 3,007 died in 2023 and 4,789 in 2022.

Most of the heat-related deaths in Spain involve the elderly, people with chronic illnesses, and socially vulnerable groups.

Health authorities have advised the public to avoid going outside during midday hours, to drink plenty of water, and to stay in cool places.
