Hong Kong police have detained three people in connection with a fire that killed many residents in a housing complex in the Tai Po district.

Those detained are two directors of the construction company carrying out renovation work in the buildings, and a consultant engineer.

The number of deaths in the fire has reached 55, with another 100 people injured and 279 missing.
