Representatives of the Russian embassy can contact businessman Samvel Karapetyan, who is in prison in Armenia.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Mikhail Kalugin, director of the Fourth Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry for the CIS countries.

He said that the diplomats last met with Karapetyan in early December:

“We received all the necessary information regarding Karapetyan’s condition. He states that his health is satisfactory, he is optimistic, and determined to fight.”

Kalugin stressed that Russia raises this issue in contacts with official representatives of Armenia:

“Karapetyan has been in prison for six months without a court decision.”

It should be noted that a Russian citizen, the owner of Tashir Group, billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, was arrested in June. He was charged with open calls for a violent seizure of power.
