Russia may lock YouTube within a year

YouTube is expected to be completely blocked in Russia within the next 6 months to 1 year.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Andrey Svintsov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications.

“This is because the platform still ignores existing Russian legislation. Anyone who uses this platform to share their content should switch to alternatives such as Rutub, VK Video, and others as soon as possible,” Svintsov said.

Recall that restrictions on the Russian segment of YouTube began to be applied in the summer of 2024.

At that time, Roskomnadzor announced that access to the platform was restricted due to the removal of more than 200 Russian channels. The country's major mobile operators have actually blocked video viewing on the platform since December 2024.
