On the night of December 21, Swedish authorities inspected the Russian-flagged Adler, anchored off the southern coast of the country, after an engine failure.
Axar.az reports that the Swedish Customs Service published information about this.
Customs officials requested assistance from the Coast Guard. At the same time, the National Task Force also participated in the operation, and the Swedish Security Police (SEPO) and the State Prosecutor's Office were involved in the investigation.
Swedish customs representative Martin Höglund said that searches on the ship are currently ongoing: "We are systematically checking the cargo and documents; we have the right to do all this during a customs inspection. The ship is in Swedish waters and, for obvious reasons, did not submit a customs declaration because it should not have anchored here. The crew claims that there are problems with the engine."
The Adler ship broke down while moving north through the Öresund Strait on the night of December 20. The ship anchored off the Kulla Peninsula after receiving a distress signal off the Swedish coast. The ship is owned by the Russian company M Leasing LLC, which is on the US and EU sanctions lists.
