Several injured after car ploughs into crowd in Netherlands

A 56-year-old woman drove her car into a crowd of people in the Netherlands on Monday, injuring nine people, authorities said.

Axar.az informs, citing DPA, the driver suffered minor injuries, while three people were in serious condition, police and the municipality said.

Police said they do not believe the incident was deliberate, but investigations were still ongoing. The incident occurred in the municipality of Nunspeet, about 70 kilometres east of Amsterdam.

The driver of the grey small car had entered the road from a side street and, for reasons that remain unclear, crossed a traffic roundabout before ploughing into the crowd, police said.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle crashed through a fence and came to a stop on a grassy area. Repоrters at the scene said there were no visible skid marks.

The incident occurred during a light parade featuring decorated cars, with many spectators standing at the side of the road.

A large number of emergency services were deployed, and several trauma helicopters were also in operation, police said.

The neighbouring municipality of Elburg announced that the parade had been cancelled.
