EU condemns US travel restrictions on five Europeans

The European Commission has strongly condemned the U.S. decision to impose travel restrictions on five European citizens, including former Commissioner Thierry Breton.

Axar.az reports that the Commission’s statement emphasized that freedom of expression is a fundamental right in Europe and a core shared value across the democratic world, including the United States.

The statement noted that the EU is an open, rules-based single market and has the sovereign right to regulate economic activity according to democratic values and international obligations.

“Our digital rules ensure a safe, fair, and level playing field for all companies, and they are applied fairly and without discrimination. We have requested explanations from U.S. authorities and continue our engagement. If necessary, we will respond swiftly and decisively to protect our regulatory rights against unjust measures,” the statement said.
