A resolution titled “Promoting human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals through transparent, accountable and efficient delivery of public services” was unanimously adopted within the framework of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Azerbaijan’s initiative.
Axar.az informs, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to the main co-author countries Turkiye, Georgia, Ecuador, Kenya, Malaysia and Thailand, EU member states, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Ethiopia, as well as a number of other countries representing Africa, Asia and the Americas joined the resolution as co-authors individually, while the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries joined as a group.
The purpose of proposing the resolution is to promote within the UN system the principle of “transparent, accountable and efficient delivery of public services,” based on the “ASAN Service” concept, which is one of Azerbaijan’s key achievements in combating corruption and has become an international brand of the country.
The adopted resolution emphasizes the importance of effective public services in the protection and promotion of all human rights and in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.
The resolution highlights the important role of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence systems, in preventing and combating corruption, ensuring equal access to public services for everyone, as well as the importance of public services in the context of disaster preparedness, response measures and recovery efforts.
The resolution recognizes the UN Public Service Award, which “ASAN Service” received in 2015, as the most prestigious award in the field of public service delivery worldwide and calls on UN bodies and other international organizations to continue promoting and rewarding successful practices in this area.
The resolution also decides to hold a panel discussion at the 65th session of the Human Rights Council on the role of public service delivery in promoting and protecting human rights, as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including in the context of disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
The unanimous adoption of the current resolution, based on similar resolutions numbered 37/7 and 52/8 adopted by consensus at the UN Human Rights Council in 2018 and 2023 on Azerbaijan’s initiative, and the large number of co-author states joining it, is a clear indication of international support for Azerbaijan’s positive experience and leading role in the field of transparent, accountable and efficient public service delivery.
