Mass protests have been ongoing in Iran for the fourth night since January 1 amid a deepening economic crisis.
Axar.az reports that the protests have spread to the capital Tehran, as well as Hamadan, Yasuj, Kuhdasht, Rasht, and other cities.
According to witnesses and local sources, people took to the streets at night to protest the sharp depreciation of the Iranian rial, the rapid increase in prices, unemployment, and the worsening general socio-economic situation. Protesters chanting slogans, police cordons, and a chaotic situation are clearly visible in the images circulating on social networks.
According to reports, Iranian security forces have implemented enhanced security measures to prevent the protests. Tear gas, water cannons, and special forces units are reportedly being used in several cities, and numerous arrests have been made.
Although official circles have called for silence and dialogue among the population, the authorities have so far failed to present a concrete economic or social roadmap for overcoming the crisis. This has further increased dissatisfaction.
According to analysts, the prolonged nature of the protests in Iran indicates that the economic problems are not just short-term fluctuations, but have entered a systemic crisis. Experts warn that the scale of the protests could expand further if the authorities do not take real reform steps.
