Severe Arctic cold hits Europe

The first day of 2026 in Europe is marked by severe cold. The Arctic cold air mass is spreading towards Britain, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Scandinavia.

Axar.az reports that the temperature has dropped significantly below normal. Meteorologists explain this cold wave by the Arctic current covering the western and northern parts of Europe.

Temperature indicators are as follows:

Britain and Ireland: minus 8-10°C (in the northern and western regions);

Germany: -7°C (Bavaria and Alpine regions), -4°C (central cities);

Scandinavia: minus 15-20°C (inland regions of Norway and Sweden), Denmark -10°C;

Spain and Portugal: 0°C to -5°C (inland parts of the Iberian Peninsula);

France: minus 6-11°C (in the eastern and mountainous regions), around -5°C in the west.

Meteorologists say the cold weather wave will continue this week.
