More than 1,000 cars burned in France on New Year's Eve

Despite the deployment of around 90,000 police officers and gendarmes in France, 1,173 vehicles were set on fire on New Year's Eve, compared with 984 last year.

Axar.az informs, citing Le Parisien, however, all regional prefects reported fewer confrontations with law enforcement, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry.

The ministry noted with some satisfaction that several cities, such as Evreux, Brest, Orleans, and Tours, which had seen notable incidents in 2024, experienced almost none this time.

The most serious incidents occurred in eastern France, particularly in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), in the Meineau, Koenigschoffen, and Neuhof districts, where vehicle fires have long been a local specialty.
