Man steals sword from Joan of Arc statue in Paris

A man was taken into custody Friday morning after damaging a statue of Joan of Arc in Place Saint-Augustin, in Paris's 8th arrondissement.

Axar.az informs, citing foreign media, according to a police source, the man managed to climb the monument and remove the sword's blade.

The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m (01:00 p.m Baku time). After seizing the metal part, the suspect left the scene but was quickly apprehended by nearby law enforcement. He was taken into custody and will undergo a behavioral assessment.

The statue in question is an equestrian work created at the end of the 19th century by the sculptor Paul Dubois. Long displayed in front of the Pantheon, it is the only Parisian representation of Joan of Arc holding a raised sword.
