Ex-CIA agent convicted of spying for Russia dies in prison

Aldrich Ames, a former Central Intelligence Agency officer sentenced to life in prison for spying for Moscow, has died in custody.

Axar.az informs, citing the Bureau of Prisons, he was 84.

Ames served as a counterintelligence analyst at the CIA for 31 years. Along with his wife, Rosario, he was convicted of selling information to the Soviet Union between 1985 and 1993, compromising secret missions and costing lives, in exchange for more than $2.5 million.

He had headed the CIA’s Soviet branch in the counterintelligence division and provided the Kremlin with the names of dozens of Russians who were spying for the United States.
