Armenian Federation to pay skier’s FIS fine

The Armenian Ski Federation will pay the fine imposed on Armenian skier Mikael Mikaelyan by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) during the “Tour de Ski” tournament.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Gagik Sargsyan, President of the Armenian Ski Federation.

According to Sargsyan, the problem arose back in May 2025, when it became known that Azerbaijan, in addition to being a sponsor of the international federation, would soon become its full member.

It should be noted that the reason for the fine was that Mikael Mikaelyan covered the inscription “Azerbaijan” on his clothing with adhesive tape during the competition. The inscription is the name of the official sponsor of the tournament, since the Azerbaijani state tourism organization has been the title sponsor of the FIS since 2025. For this reason, his name is mandatory placed on the sports uniforms of participants in World Cup stages, world championships, and other major competitions.
