Two US-seized Venezuela oil tankers reappear near Puerto Rico

Two Venezuela-linked oil tankers seized by the United States, the supertanker M Sophia and the smaller Galileo, have resurfaced near Ponce, Puerto Rico, after their locations were unknown for days because they were not transmitting tracking signals.

Axar.az reports that Reuters and Tankertrackers confirmed the vessels were anchored off the coast on January 21.

The ships are part of a broader US campaign targeting Venezuelan oil exports, with seven vessels seized in recent weeks.

US officials have not announced where the tankers will be taken. Industry experts warn that many of these older “shadow fleet” tankers pose safety and environmental risks, and legal seizure cases could take months or years to resolve.
