Ukraine strikes Russian tankers in Sea of Azov

Ukraine's General Staff said the Defense Forces struck 12 Russian tankers, one tugboat and one cargo ship in the Sea of Azov during the night of July 9.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian media, the forces also targeted the Yug Rusi oil and gas terminal and an ammunition depot used by Russian troops.

"On the night of July 9, as part of efforts to reduce the military and economic potential of the Russian aggressor, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out strikes against a number of key military and military-economic targets.

"As a result, 12 tankers, one tugboat and one cargo ship of the Russian Federation were hit in the Sea of Azov," General Staff said.

According to the statement, the targeted Russian vessels were used, among other purposes, to supply fuel and lubricants to Russian military units and to transport oil and petroleum products in circumvention of international sanctions.
