US-backed Gaza committee recruits police, 2,000 applicants

The US-backed Palestinian committee for Gaza, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), has opened applications for a new police force in the enclave. In the first hours, about 2,000 Palestinians applied. Candidates must be 18–35, Gaza residents, physically fit, and have no criminal record.

Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that the initiative was announced at the inaugural meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump’s international Board of Peace in Washington, where he also pledged billions for Gaza’s reconstruction and outlined a U.N.-authorized stabilization force.

The long-term plan is to train around 12,000 police officers.

Hamas, which currently controls just under half of Gaza, seeks to include its existing police in the new administration. Israel opposes Hamas’s involvement. The recruitment and stabilization efforts are part of a broader 20-point U.S.-backed peace plan aimed at transferring governance of Gaza to NCAG while excluding Hamas.
