Zelensky sanctions 225 captains of Russia’s shadow fleet

President Volodymyr Zelensky, on February 21, signed decrees enforcing new sanctions approved by the National Security and Defense Council, targeting 225 captains of Russia’s “shadow fleet” involved in exporting Russian oil products.

Axar.az reports, citing Ukrainian Pravda, that the sanctions cover citizens of 11 countries, including Russia, India, and the Philippines, who were found transporting oil in the Black, Red, and Baltic Seas to circumvent EU, G7, and other international sanctions.

A second sanction package includes 46 Russian citizens, two Iranian nationals, and 44 Russian companies supporting the country’s defense industry.

These entities supply, produce, or maintain equipment, electronic warfare systems, and parts used in ballistic and cruise missiles, armed and reconnaissance drones, firearms, and ammunition. The two Iranians are linked to supplying aviation parts to Iran’s Aviation Industry Corporation, a partner in producing Shahed drones, already sanctioned by Ukraine, the US, Switzerland, and New Zealand.
