PM Modi becomes first recipient of Knesset medal

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the inaugural Knesset Medal on Wednesday following his address to the Israeli parliament.

Axar.az, citing JP, reports that the newly established medal recognizes individuals for their significant contributions to Israel and the Jewish people.

The medal was presented by Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, while the audience chanted Modi’s name as he left the podium.

In his speech, Modi condemned the October 7 massacre, expressed support for Israel’s resolute stance against terrorism, and highlighted Israel’s role as a global leader in innovation.

"We feel your pain. India stands with Israel firmly, with full conviction in this moment and beyond. Nothing justifies error,” Modi said in condemnation of the October 7 massacre.

"Israel is a powerhouse of innovation and technological leadership," a combination that he said creates "a natural basis for a future-oriented partnership," he noted, and pointed out that both Israel and India are ancient civilizations."
