Turkiye's Ministry of National Defense announced that NATO air and missile defense assets in the Eastern Mediterranean intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile that was detected heading toward Turkish airspace.
Axar.az informs "A ballistic missile fired from Iran, which was detected heading toward Turkish airspace after crossing Iraqi and Syrian airspace, was timely engaged and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense elements deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean," the ministry said in a statement.
According to information, the debris was confirmed to belong to the air defense interceptor, not the incoming missile. No casualties or injuries were reported.
"Turkiye’s determination and ability to protect its citizens and territory remain at the highest level. While supporting regional stability and peace, Turkiye is fully capable of safeguarding its territory and people, regardless of the source of any threat.
Every measure to defend our land and airspace will be taken decisively and without hesitation. We reiterate our right to respond to any hostile acts against our country. All parties are warned to avoid actions that could further escalate conflicts in the region. In this context, we will continue close coordination with NATO and other allies," the statrment reads.
